Senior Azure Database Engineer | Open Roles: 3

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Azure Database Engineer to join our Database Operations team. As a database expert, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, availability, and security of our critical database systems in a hybrid cloud environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Optimize the performance of MSSQL 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022 databases in both hosted and IaaS SQL VM environments on Azure.
  • Monitor application databases and queries, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with application teams and other stakeholders to address database-related issues.
  • Ensure adherence to technical standards and operational procedures for database performance, high availability, replication, scalability, and security.
  • Design and troubleshoot real-time MSSQL issues.
  • Develop and implement performance tuning strategies, utilizing tools like SolarWinds, Query Store, and Extended Events.
  • Contribute to the development of standards for application design and code to ensure integrity, security, and performance.
  • Provide technical support to application development teams as needed.
  • Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with database managers and other teams to optimize database performance and reliability.
  • Acquire relevant Azure certifications (e.g., DP-300, DP-900, AZ-900 Exam).
  • Adhere to CRD technical standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Take initiative and drive solutions to improve database performance and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field.
  • 6-8 years of experience working with large MS SQL Server databases in a 24x7x365 production environment.
  • Strong performance tuning experience, including the use of various tools and techniques.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience operating MS SQL servers and related technologies in Azure.
  • In-depth understanding of database encryption, high-availability, disaster recovery, database replication, and backup/restore processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and a strong sense of customer service.
  • Understanding of ITIL concepts desired.
